Homer would be turning in his grave, wondering even after hundreds of thousands of years, as man has explored the unreachable and discovered the incommunicable, some progress would have been made on the patent matter of “LET THE GIRL DECIDE WHOM SHE WANTS TO MARRY”
Yes, the same Homer who brought to us the legend of Troy as the early history of ancient Greece. Helen of Troy is the object of one of the most dramatic love stories of all time and one of the main reasons for a ten-year war between the Greeks and Trojans, known as the Trojan War. Helen of Troy is known as the face that launched a thousand ships because of the vast number of warships the Greeks sailed to Troy to reclaim Helen.
Is Sania Mirza the new-age Helen? Some of our Indian friends are throwing the most irrational rants from across the border and not in a very friendly tone. One such headline read:
Indian political party furious on Shoaib-Sania wedding
We can ignore the unfounded politicization of the matter by conservative Indian political parties, but to the astonishment of modern-day Homer, vibes riddling down the Pakistani side of the border by Indian bloggers and Indians on social networking sites makes one wonder if the contemporary world is still not developed enough to acknowledge a woman’s right to marry according to her wishes, be it with a man from across the border.
I fail to understand why the news baffles my Indian friends. Guys, you seriously need to grow up and realize your not living in 500 BC. Let me show you some stuff that forces me to write this blogpost:
Sania is a b* she should be thrown out of India let her go and live with that Pakistani ba* -ram – jaipur
Sania,I was probably one of the biggest fan of yours, today I am ashamed of myself to be your fan since you prefered your ““momentary““ likings over your country.I am sorry can`t even wish you….. -preeti – london
first of all every indian should kick to sania and her family to get lost our country and build ur business to our enemy country. gov“t of india should cancell her all citizen ship and back to received her all honour what ever has given to from ourcountry. suman siliguri -suman – siliguri
Muslims are muslims afterall….. all they care is religion and yeah..ofcourse jehad. she should first meet the relatives of terror victims and later we should kick her out of India..just like M F Hussain. BTW good to see so many desi youngistan expressing their view. Group up ppl…its time to kick the traitors out. Also remember what SRK said few days ago…… They are all the same. WAKE UP! -raven11 – Chennai
Star like Sachin, Amitab, Gavaskar, Padukone, Saina Nehwal, Sania Mirza, A. Bindra etc are Indian Icon. Looking at tense relation with Pakistan, how can any Indian Citizen ever think of such act. God give her good sense. -S. Chaudhary – Pune
What sania mirza was, is because of India… we made her queen….but she chose to be A Pakistani…. God Bless her, don`t worry Sania, we are not going to miss you… you are not worthy of that…. -Sunita – Navi Mumbai
Random search on facebook proved more revealing:
We want Fatima Bhutto in return of Sania Mirza
1,000,000 people who hate sania mirza
We are lucky we aren’t living in the times of Troy when wars were fought over a woman and even if that were the case, we would have made sure that the last laugh accompanied chants of Pitt-cum-Malik: “Is there no one else?”
Let bygones be bygones, I think my angry friends should now worry about Sushmita Sen, Wasim Akram is single!

I am from India, and seeing Sania getting married to another sportsperson whether it a Pakistani, a Austrailian, or a Russian, it’s just fine, and moreover a sports person like Shoaib will help her sports career. God protect them both. Bless these two individuals to reach greater strides in life as well as in the here after.
Cheers mate

Its quite surprising that many Indians are actually relating terrorism and treason to Sania’s choice of marrying Shoaib!
Just because she is a public personality does not maker her bound to take decisions of even her personal life according to the people of her country’s wishes.
I wonder what is the need of being shocked or disgusted at her marriage with a Pakistani cricketer!
They consider the involvement of a Pakistani as a matter of shame and degradation.
Both nations have no right in interfering or objecting on what they do in their personal life.
If they really loved her, they should have rather supported her in this and been happy for her rather than writing about ‘Wake up” calls or censuring her which plainly showed the sentiments of hate of many of them towards Pakistan.
Hope Shoaib and Sania have a successful marriage ahead.
I believe this is the mentality of the people living in Sub-Continent. Consider Mohsin Hasan Khan’s marriage as a case. He married to Indian actress Reena Roy and Pakistani people and even authorities started to question his loyalty towards Pakistani cricket. Even they nicknamed him “Jeeja Ji”. I read this in a blog,
“I remember a crucial moment in an India-Pakistan match, when Mohsin called his partner, probably Mudassar Nazar, for a cheeky single. The Pakistani corner of the Sharjah stadium erupted with shouts of “Don’t. Don’t. Jeeja will get you run out.” For no fault of Mohsin Khan, I must emphasise, his partner was indeed run out.”
You cannot (and so should not even try to) bound Love by man-made boundaries. It is unconditional.
We welcome Sania, doesn’t matter where is she from.

i think the only reason Indians are mad is that Sania is an Indian girl marring a Pakistani guy………if it was the other way around i believe things would be diff. take the example of Veer Zara, the Pakistani media was pissed abt tht only because Zara being a Pakistani Muslim runs away with an Indian Hindu guy n by the way that only can happen in movies (get my point)
Well who are we to say anything to the Indians…when these days all the forwarded texts I am recieving seem to be revolving around, us gloating over the fact that we are the ‘larkay walas’. It is such bullshit..as if we do not have any other grave problem that the only thing making news is shoaib malik’s scandals. I wont be surprise if this whole marriage is a sham to cover up the dying careers of Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza
The hysterical response and the haphazard/mismanaged welcome of Sania Mirza in Pakistan is a proof of the low intelligentsia of the Pakistanis. Pakistanis are so proud that a Pakistani has married an Indian girl; it shows the deep-rooted inferiority complex of you people. An Indian as ‘accepted’ a Pakistani, must be a lucky moment for your guys, haha. Pakistanis don’t’ stop comparing their girls with Indian girls but wonder why Pakistani men go to India to beg for Indian women.., mostly women who successful in their profession (Indian women!, mostly educated/beautiful/sophisticated and successful).
Sania Mirza has taken a wrong decision to marry an illiterate Pakistani cricketer and nobody can make her realize that until she realizes it on her own. Pakistanis are religiously bigotry people and very hateful towards non-Muslims. I don’t have any words for small-minded Pakistanis; they aren’t worth any attention of Indians.
@ Monika – The post was more concerned with Indian reaction, see the links and ” ” cross pasted, which clearly shows where you are coming from
. The Shoaib-Sania saga reflects the mindset of Indian-Pakistanis, till date, society norms, which hasnt changed. The complexity is evident from your irrational comment/blurt, none else.
Again typical Pakistani blah blah. Have you seen how Pakistanis have reacted? Sorry, i won’t waste my precious time in collecting negative comments by ignorant Pakistanis who talk so filthy about India and Hindus always. You very well know how bigoted you people are and how filthy your tongue is. I think you guys should focus on your country rather than going gaga over your cricketers marrying Indian women because apparently they can’t find a suitable bride within their own country. Marrying a Pakistani man shows that Indians don’t think in terms of religion, demography and ‘Ummah’. I hate to comment her but I still because people like you ask for it.
@ Tahyr: well bud, seriously, watching your people dancing and literally attacking Sania Mirza on her arrival shows how desperate and low self esteemed you people are. Come on, she is just a tennis player from India, but guess her being from India makes it all quite exciting, isn’t it ? We could see the insecurity at its peak.
Good luck with your bullshit, don’t have time to waste on Pakistanis who live in a different world than us Indians (believe me, the whole world would agree to this one). May your ‘Allah’ help you come out of this vicious cycle of insecurity and the hatred/terror which originates from it.
LOLLLL! Its quiet evident who is furious, and losing her marbles in anger-cum-inferiority complex, that has been used in every sentence. HAHAHA!
Grow up and take your rants to Shiv Sena, they shall entertain you
Its funny, I think you have an inferiority complex coming here posting about us having inferiority complex.
Oh and before point out flaws in us do read your post again
The literate, succesful and “beautiful” Indian girls marry average, illiterate Pakistani boys? LOL. Wonder who will the literate and not-so-average marry ?
I understand that there are a lot of spam lately. Apparently it’s pretty difficult for people to understand that relationships can be mutually beneficial. I can leave a meaningful fantastic comment and add content and substance to one of your articles and you will give me a link in exchange. There are too many takers out there and they aren’t willing to help people out. Take take take! .
